We have arrived in Haiti!
Much of our summer was spent focusing on the work of raising the prayer and financial support we needed to be able to go to the field. God has been very faithful and led many people and churches to come along side and partner with us and so shortly before we left for our training in Colorado our agency gave us the green light to leave for the field.
On Thursday October 4th we awoke very early to begin our trip to Haiti. With 10 checked bags, 3 carry-ons plus a personal item each we were loaded down. A 6:10 am flight took us from Detroit to Miami and then on to Port-au-Prince where we landed shortly before 1:00 pm. The 3 of us and all 10 of our checked bags arrived in Haiti on the same flight (a small miracle for which we are grateful). Two of my colleagues were waiting for us and soon we were off to our temporary housing, a small apartment at the back of one of my other colleague’s home where we will be staying until the house we will be moving into is livable (hopefully in the next week or two).
On Friday morning we took a trip to the orphanage where our youngest son Leyson is. We had a fantastic time playing with this cute little boy who will one day becoming home with us. Samuel had fun playing with his brother, though he did think he would be bigger. It could be a long time before Leyson is legally adopted so for now we will cherish the visits we are able to have with him.
Lots more to write about; our house, first driving experiences or my first run – stay tuned!
